Beginners Only Workshop (BOW!) : Sundays 1.30 pm - 4.00 pm

A four week Acting Workshop for Beginners. This workshop is primarily designed for people who are thinking about becoming an actor and want to understand what is involved but also welcomes people who just wish to learn more about themselves and self-expression. The Workshop is on four consecutive Sunday afternoons and allows for the exploration of the acting process and provides a first hand experience of working with and in front of a small group of people in a user-friendly environment. Participants in the workshop have the opportunity to experience a little of everything - improvisation, reading scenes from plays and movies, monologues, movement and voice exercises. Participants are also given the opportunity at the end of the series to talk about their experience and to receive input from their fellow participants.

Gayna is an extraordinary person.  She expresses the beauty of living in the moment, not only by the way she talks to her students about it, but also by her intense focus on, her dedication to, the student currently in the spotlight or in whatever activity the class may be engaged.  This was for me the most important lesson I learned from her, both by her example and by her words.

To be coached by Gayna is to engage in an incredible interpersonal interaction.  She works with you, step by step, to help you become, for the time that you’re acting, the character you’re playing, to help you reach that part of yourself where the character can express itself through you.  And somehow, magically, this allows your own true self to emerge.

I really enjoyed my experience at the Beginners Workshop. It was challenging and extremely fun at the same time. It gave me a better appreciation for acting and how it relates in our everyday life. I would recomend this class to a friend, even if they're not pursuing acting as a career.

- Earl Osborne (New Actor - Oakland, CA)

I came to the Acting and Being Workshop because I knew Gayna from the cafe where I worked. I liked her and often saw her there interacting with her students. The Acting and Being Workshop was fun and skill enhancing, and allowed me to open myself up to the depths of self and its expression in everday life. Lots of interesting group and person to person interactions, mixed with play and humor. I had great fun, made some new friends and gained insight into myself and how to process my experience artistically. Gayna has a world of acting experience and is a friendly guide for the perplexed and willing student.
